A Day In The Life: An Inspiring Training Session With Paralympic Swimmer Jessica Long (Video)

Jessica Long is a Paralympic swimmer with 23 medals for Team USA and 14 World Records. The epitome of determination, she has been doing things her own way since birth. “I am just like everyone else, I can do everything that everyone else can do, I just happen to be missing my legs,” she says. Born with fibular hemimelia, a condition in which part or all of the fibular bone is missing, her legs were amputated at 18 months old and she was fitted for prosthetics. However, that didn’t stop her from pursuing her passion.

Long later became the youngest member of the U.S. Paralympic swim team at age 12. “I was just really determined, even from a young age,” she says. “It’s really kind of cool to see that determination, you know, where it’s taken me today in my swimming.” Long’s book, Unsinkable, a memoir describing how she became one of the most decorated Paralympians of all time, is set to be published on June 5, and at just 23 years old, she was recently named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 List of 2018.
