There’s a brand-new Budweiser in town. For the first time ever, the storied brewmaster is breaking out a special formula that dates back to the pre-Prohibition era: the 1933 Repeal Reserve Amber Lager.

The amber lager is as rich in history as it is taste. It all started with Adolphus Busch, who created and brewed the beer ahead of Prohibition. Due to the onset of the alcohol ban in 1920, the beer was never distributed outside of St. Louis — that is, until now!

So, what does the new brew taste like? The amber lager features a light aroma and a caramel-malt taste and boasts a higher ABC than traditional Budweiser beer at 6.1%, (original Bud features 5%).

Staying true to the history of the lager, the new brew will be packaged in vintage-style Budweiser stubby bottles.

“We are excited to mark the upcoming holiday season and the anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition with this new brew based on a forgotten recipe,” Ricardo Marques, vice president, Budweiser, says in a statement released from the brand. “While Budweiser Repeal Reserve is a great tasting Amber Lager, it also tells the story of an important part of our history and gives reason for celebration.”
